Footy Snacks to Make With Dad

on Grand Final Day

With the AFL Grand Final on this Saturday, we've put together three easy-to-make, healthy footy snack ideas that the kids can help with in the kitchen.

1. Sausage Rolls

No game-day viewing party is quite complete without a plate of sausage rolls smothered in tomato sauce, we say! For a healthier alternative, pack your mince with lean beef and all the veggies. Think shredded zucchini, carrot, even capsicum (the kids will never know!). Homemade sausage rolls are generally much healthier than store-bought packs, and the little ones will love getting their hands dirty creating the mince mixture.

2. Loaded Mexican Dip

If you love tucking into nachos at half-time, then a loaded dip is the perfect pairing. Spread low-fat sour cream over the base of a serving platter, then ask the kids to create a rainbow masterpiece by adding dollops of salsa, cubes of charred corn, cooked peppers, guacamole, tomato and beans.

3. Sweet Potato Fries

Ah sweet potato fries - they may not be on everyone's list of ultimate football snacks, but trust us, these oven-baked beauties should be. Subbing out usual potatoes for sweet potatoes adds more vitamins and nutrients, whilst baking instead of frying eliminates the excess calories from fat. Crispy and creamy on the inside, sweet potato fries will be your new go-to game-day treat!
